Of Circles and Squares

“The Heavens are round like an open umbrella; the Earth is square like a chessboard.” – The Book of Jin (648)

For the ancient Chinese, the square and the circle represented the sky and the earth, and so everything is contained in squares and circle. The transition between squares and circles is subtle, uncertain and contains infinite possibilities. My work will talk about 'Squares', 'Circles' and 'in between'. The rigid stability of squares. The self-sustenance of circles. The conversations in between. They are paired and grouped, share color, share texture, share shape, share material. They blend together, but stay distinct.
